Out of Commission

So, I have been totally out of commission for the last few months. I was getting pretty overwhelmed with all of our holiday activities and trying to blog. If one thing was going to win it was definitely going to be holiday activities!

I had an awesome time with the kids this year! We participated in many community events, and we have lots of fun memories and many new traditions to carry on next year.

With the new year here I am now looking for a job to continue my career. My baby is a year old (I can't believe it) and financially we really need more income right now. So I am actively looking for a job, and I am just praying and trusting in God to let things flow smoothly and according to His plan.

So I would like to get back into the blogosphere, and I am going to try! But, I don't want to overwhelm myself either. So, no promises!

Thursday Holiday Craft Day

Okay, so last week I said that I would be posting every Thursday about frugal and fun Holiday craft and decorating ideas. If you follow me you know that I am super excited for the Holidays, and it's all I can do not to get my Christmas tree out!! But I am going to start with Thanksgiving...

So my sister and I are going to make Thanksgiving t-shirts this year for our kids (Aubrey, 5, Malachi, 4, Payton, 2, Caitlyn, 9 months). I found brown short sleeved t-shirts for the girls for $3 at Wal-Mart and I like them better than other t-shirts because they are frilly on the sleeves. We are just going to wear long-sleeved t-shirts underneath. I will post pictures of the shirt making process and final product when they are done, which will hopefully be with in the week.

One website that I have found is Enchanted Learning. I am going to be using this site frequently through the coming months. They have many different crafts of many different levels for children. Payton loves to do crafts, and I enjoy bonding with her this way! This picture below is just one of the projects that we'll be doing, and there are so many more!!

Life...

I have been wanting to sit down and compose my thoughts since my Grandpa passed away last Friday and this is the first chance that I've had to do so.

Death, unfortunately, gets me thinking. About life. I just want to make sure that I don't take any moment for granted.

With my kids I have been finding myself getting really short on patience lately. Payton (my 2-year-old) is starting to test the waters with me and I have not been as loving or full of grace as I need to be. And I know these years are going to fly by. They already have! I can't believe that Payton is 2, going on 20! So I am resolving to continue down the path of training up my children to behave, but to do so with with grace for them. I want to make sure I have enough playing and laughing time too.

I have also thought about all the things that I would like to say to people that I haven't said. My dad wanted to talk with my Grandpa one last time and he wasn't able to. So I started thinking about what I would want to say to my dad if he passed away unexpectedly. I want to make sure he hears these things before it's too late.

I know that many of us have had moments like this. Where we sit and really reflect on life. I want to make sure that I take these reflections and really apply them to my life. I want to live each moment to it's fullest, enjoying everything that Papa has for me and my family! I want to make sure that I share Papa's love with everyone, and not be afraid to speak the truth out. I want everyone I love to know how much I love them, and I want them to know how much God loves them.

So I am going to live the life that Papa has for me! I am going to love for Him and live for Him.

Thursday Project: Getting Excited for the Holidays!

As I am sure you all know a lot of stores are starting to get Christmas stuff out already. And you know what?? I am excited for it! I don't know if it is because I will have another child to share it with this year but I am so super excited for both Thanksgiving and Christmas!

I truly want to create a magical experience for my children, but I want to make sure it doesn't revolve around materials things. I want to bring our family more into focus, and treasure our memories of the holidays for years to come.

That being said I am trying to think about fun and frugal decorating and craft ideas. Product Review: Graco Duo Glider Deluxe Double Stroller

Okay, so I really want to start reviewing products for companies. I have been doing some research and I found an article that said that I should start by reviewing the products I already have. So I am starting with my double stroller!

I have found this stroller very easy to use, and I like it a lot. The maneuverability on it is unexpected. It's no feat to push a stroller through narrow clothes racks and rows while shopping, but I have found this stroller corners very well. It also is a very smooth ride, and is not to heavy to push.

The only thing that I would classify as a fault with this stroller is how bulky it is for storing. I have to take the front tray and canopy off in order to fit it into my car. But I think the ease of use makes up for this. And I have a small car so I would probably run into this problem with any stroller that I had.

So if you are out there looking for a double stroller I highly recommend this one!

Menu Plan Monday

Let me just start by saying how I have started my Monday! I am all geared up to get up at 5:30 and get a lot accomplished. So when my 8-month-old woke up at 5, I was thinking "okay, I will just get up and get stuff done!". I did not expect her to WANT to stay up! I have just gotten her back to sleep, and was able to get my menu plan done. But my husband is sleeping on the couch because I was snoring so loud last night, so it looks like I'll not be getting any cleaning done after this post! (Just take it in stride, Lindsey...)

Now let me just say that I am working a lot this week which is why my menu looks sparse. First, I work in the evenings so if I make something it is usually something in the crock pot. Or we just eat from The Barn (my employer) because we really can't beat the prices ($1 salad bar for me or $2.75 for steak tips and mushrooms for example...)

It's Sunday and that means it is weekly planning time!

Goal One: Getting together with neglected friends...
I have found myself needing to get together with a lot of people but not knowing how to fit it all in. So, I am going to just try to take it one week at a time and get together with one or two friends each week. I am also working quite a bit this week, so it should be interesting fitting it all in.

Goal Two: Get organized about blogging...
If you have read very much of my blog you have realized a number of things. I am relatively new at it and I am trying to sell my own hair accessories. Because I have been new at this whole "blogging" thing I have found myself spending time learning how to do a lot of thing, such as getting my links out there for giveaways, setting up my layout, etc. But I want to get organized with my blogging time. So I have given myself topics for each day to write about. And I am going to find two linky's a day to enter my giveaway into.

Goal Three: Keep the house running
Never ending goal of staying on top my goals! LOL! I have been doing well keeping the house together, just want to keep it that way!

Goals for the Week: UPDATE!

If you read my blog earlier in the week you would have read about my weekly plan on Sunday. I wanted to touch base and let you know how I was doing on my plan....

I have done pretty well getting up and getting things done. On Tuesday I must have made the craziest pot of coffee ever because I was super motivated! I cleaned my whole house, instead of doing my daily schedule of cleaning. Which actually makes it nice to maintain throughout the week. I can do my daily cleaning and still feel like the rest of my house is clean too.

I rounded up my headbands for Leah! Check!

I FORGOT to take Payton to story time! I almost kicked myself last night when I realized that I totally forgot! But I will just have to remember to take her next week! (Duh, blonde moment!)

I was looking for a good meme to use on Sunday, but I haven't found one that I like a lot, so I am just going to write every Sunday about my goals. They may be goals for the week in regards to my house, children, projects, crafting, etc. So, if you decide that you would like to join, please link up! I am a big fan of helping to promote each other's blogs!

If you have been following my blog then you know that I have recently set up a cleaning schedule, and have made goals to take control of my time. So, I just want to reinforce my goals in this area for the week. I have been extremely tired in the morning, but I truly want to get up by 6:00 every morning so I can get things done before the girls wake up. I enjoy just being able to relax and have fun with them in the morning.

My friend, Leah, is having a pancake breakfast and silent auction on Saturday morning to raise money for adopting their baby boy, Hadrian. I told her that I would donate some headbands, so I need to get those ready for this week. I also want to make extra and get them set up on my Etsy shop.

I also signed Payton up for her first story time at the library! It starts this week on Wednesday. I have signed her up in the past and then failed to take her. But I think she has reached the age where she will really enjoy it! I am excited to see how she does. She's getting to be such a big girl, but that's a whole other post.

So other than my normal routine, that's about it for the week! Interested to see what else my fellow bloggers have going on!

So I have been scheduled to work more this week. Which is okay for the fall. It's the busiest season for us, so it's the best money. And once December hits we'll be sloowwwwww! So I am going to take what I can get right now. That said it does make it more of a challenge to keep up on all my house projects, bow making, blogging, and everything. So, my goal is to stay focused and make sure that I am prioritizing my time. And I have the most wonderful babysitter, Candace, who is so helpful in making sure my house is all picked up!

My husband decided to do some grocery shopping for me on Saturday night. It wasn't what I had planned, but I appreciate him being proactive and just doing it! He couldn't stand waiting one or two more days without much food in the house ;-). (That's a man for you, right?) So, one tasks is done!

Realizing Goals!

At church on Sunday during worship I felt like the Lord the leading me to redefine my goals. So looking back over the last couple of weeks of my posts I realized that I have been focusing on goals, but God gave me specific instruction to formalize my goals in more areas.

In the past few weeks I have defined my cleaning goals. I have a cleaning chart set out, and it has helped to declutter my life and give my family more peace.

John and I have set spending goals together. This has shown us where we are and where we want to go. It hasn't been perfect over the last couple of weeks with money, but we are learning and will get there.

So, now I feel like I am to set out specific goals for other areas.

My number one goal that I want to define is my relationship with Papa. I want to ensure that I am moving onward and upward, and spending more time being in His presence and just knowing Him. (During my journaling I am going to write out more specific goals.) I also want to set goals for who I feel like God is calling me to be a tool in leading to Him. I want to set specific goals for reading, journaling, and spending time in prayer. Not that I will be strict about the schedule, but I need more purpose and structure. I am hoping my setting specific goals in this area it will give me more focus.

I am excited to put these plans in action and look back in a couple of months and identify what's working and what's not working, throw things out and add new in. I want to see that changes in me, my family, and my home. I am hoping that I will gain a deeper understanding of who Papa is and how much he loves me. I hope that it will be evident in my everyday life, and that it will affect those around me. So I am moving forward with the purpose of realizing my goals, and this gives me a new bounce in my step!

Update time...

So, I had a lot of meals left over from last week so John and I went grocery shopping (by ourselves, thank you Candace and Lindsey) last night to just grab a couple of things that we need. Which means I have no big update on a menu or grocery plan. I am craving a really good deal though so I will be keeping my eyes out!

Also, I sold my 2nd bow in ebay. I have 7 listed on etsy right now (www.cuteaspie.etsy.com) and I really want to use etsy because it is more economical. But right now ebay is the one giving me the results. So, I shall continue to use both until I can truly identify which option is going to work out better.

Honestly, I am very afraid that this isn't going to work. I have found doing this is very fun and rewarding for me. I want to really dig in and start making a lot. But I am trying to be smart and slow. Don't get ahead of yourself, Lindsey! I am just going to trust God and know that if this is supposed to be another way to support my family then He will provide a way for it all to work out.

So, now that we have begun to makeover our financial strategy, I am realizing that I am aware of the change needed in many other areas. I need to take back responsibility for my life, and the way that our family is run. Let me highlight that I said “responsibility” and not control. Control is not mine to take, control is in God’s hands and I need to trust Him for the guidance. But I am responsible for how my time and attitude, and my children’s time is spent.

So, here’s what I’m talking about...

I am on a new mission to keep my house up. Not that I expect it to be perfect, but I had fallen into a habit of sleeping in, rushing around, and barely scraping by on the household duties. Then I would end up spending one whole day cleaning the whole house. Repeat. In order to break this pattern I have established a pick-up routine for every morning and evening (dishes, pick up toys, put away clothes, basically straighten up). In addition, I have set up a cleaning schedule of deeper cleaning tasks that I need to do each day. Weekly, I will have special projects to complete, such as cleaning out the basement cupboards, or some other project.

I have also realized that Payton is coming to an age where she would greatly benefit from a little more structure in her life. By structure I mean not sitting around watching tv all day! So, I am embarking on a mission to put together one activity for her to do a day. This will also give me an opportunity to begin teaching Payton more formally about Jesus, and lay the groundwork for her to be introduced to a relationship with him.

I do not want to be come so rigid with my schedule that I am inflexible. We have begun practicing some of my new policies, and it has helped to let me feel more relaxed and peaceful throughout the day, which is going to a result in a more peaceful family. So, I hope to continue to recognize areas in which I can take responsibility and make our lives better. Because I am realizing the change in my attitude it has truly shown me how much of a mood influencer I can be for my family. When I choose to be in a good mood and joyful, not matter what we’re encountering, then it helps my family to move through whatever we may doing with a joyful attitude as well. Not that it’s all rosy and pretty, but I can help to make things as positive and productive as possible.

New Take On Food

Okay, so in keeping with the theme of lightening my load I am also returning to being frugal in the kitchen as well. We have realized that we are letting our costs get out of control, and I am going to control the parts that I can. In order to help support this new goal of money-saving I have come to a couple of conclusions. First, I am only going to shop at Aldi's and Save-A-Lot. Of course, I will go to Wal-Mart of larger commercial store if necessary. But I am going to avoid these stores at all costs because they make me want more stuff that I don't have. If I don't go, then I don't want. Secondly, I need to make a menu and be consistent with it. Here is my menu for this week:

Lightening Our Load

Okay, so first of all, I tend to think that I am not a clutter bug. I am not a pack rat. I hate the idea of having random things laying around, that I may use one day. So, I am constantly on a mission to clean out our house. And, our house is pretty small for a family of four, so it is a constant battle to keep things organized.

The last week or so I have been getting very excited for fall shopping for the girls. I literally feel like I am buying myself something when I buy them something. And I just love how cute they look in their little outfits. So, I began going through all of their clothes. Payton has inherited clothes from my niece, Aubrey, which I have kept in storage bins in my basement. In order to inventory what I had, so that I know what to buy, I went through all of my storage totes today, as well as both of the girls dressers and closets. I am always shocked at how much they have and how much I can continue to get rid of. Through this process I have also realized how little they really need.

What trully kills be about this is that I feel like I am going through our house once every two or three months, and I always have stuff to give or throw away. I wonder to myself, "how is this possible?" And it doesn't just apply to the girls' things. My closet is just as bad, and John's is as well, although he would never admit it. (So, I have to clean his out when he's not looking. Funny how they never miss it if they don't know it's gone, huh?)

Seeing all the stuff I am giving away makes me think back to my childhood and the things I had. We didn't live richly, but we weren't poor either. I never wanted for anything, I had clothes and toys. Sure, there were things that I wanted that I didn't get, but what child doesn't experience that? What I realize about my childhood is how grateful how I was for what I had.

So, I am on a new mission. We do not need a closets overflowing with clothes or bins and bins full of toys. I am going to lighten our load. I am going to appreciate what I have, and I want to teach my children to be grateful, not to take for granted having everything they want.

My shopping trip today....

So, I typically go grocery shopping on Monday mornings. Today, I had the pleasure of taking my husband with me. It was great! We used to go shopping together, you know when you're in that newlywed phase...Then the kids come and it's just to hard to coordinate. While it was enjoyable to have him with me, I also spent way more money than I would have if I were by myself, even with two kids.

We just went to Wal-Mart today, and it was nice to have a one-stop trip. Usually, I would go to Aldi's and Save-A-Lot first. If I couldn't finish my shopping trip then I would finish at Wal-Mart. But my husband gave me the freedom today to shop as though I had no care in the world. I had to take some coupons with me just to feel sane though! Normally I check a couple of blogs before I go to get good deals, but they weren't updated and I didn't have time to go through all the ads myself. Why does getting professional pictures have to be so hard?

Yesterday I went with both of the girls to get their pictures done. Usually in the first year I want to get pictures every three months. Due to busyness I wasn't able to get Caitlyn's 3 months pictures done or Payton's two years. So, I went yesterday. Thank goodness my sister-in-law, Amy, decided to go with me. Otherwise, I think I might have lost my mind!

The session began with Payton's individual pictures. As she is 2 I felt that it would probably be good to just do her first and get it out of the way. In hindsight I think that perhaps I should have done Caitlyn first because Payton would have seen how well Caitlyn did and may have wanted to be more involved. All in all I did get some good shots, and I am very happy with the final result.

Ok, so as previously stated I am trying my hand at making hair bows. And I am surprising myself. I typically view myself as not very creative. Apparently, whenever I am given a project to run with I am able to pull some things out of my hat, though.

So, this is my newest bow. Tara, my sister, went and bought a bunch of ribbon so that I could practice and she will use the bows for my niece, Aubrey. For Tara the bigger the better is usually a rule of thumb, so this bow measures about five inches across. I wanted Payton to model this bow for the picture, but she wouldn't have any of it.

Okay, so I had attempted to start blogging back in January and it just didn't work out. Considering the fact that I had just had a baby, and was adjusting to having two children, this should not surprise me. So, I am going to try it again.

This time around I have a different focus. I have begun to create my own hair bows, and I would like to sell them in order to help support my family. Soooooo...I am going to begin a blog in order to have another place to advertise the things I am making. I will probably be giving away free items occasionally, so if you have read this blog keep checking back for some possible free samples.

In addition to selling my creations I would like to share about my life, which revolves around my family. I have two very wonderful and adorable little girls. They are a joy in my life!
